Threading
Eyebrow Threading Through Time
The ancient practice and its contemporary revival.
Who would have thought that a beauty trend that’s become globally popular would have its roots in ancient history? Eyebrow threading, a practice that’s been handed down through generations, is now seeing a massive revival. But why and how?
As time progressed, eyebrow threading became a practice not only for the elite but also for the public. It represented a rite of passage for many young women in various cultures. In ancient times, women would use pure cotton threads, twisting and rolling them over unwanted facial hair. This would entangle the hair in the thread, which was then lifted out from the follicle.
Different cultures, from Persians to Arabs, embraced threading as an essential beauty regimen. For many, it became a significant cultural and social activity, fostering community ties.
Being of Indian origin I learnt this technique in India when I was 14 years old. I never thought that I will ever use it as a professional. In 1983, I introduced Threading to Ireland while I was studying beauty therapy in Portobello Beauty college (now called Galligan’s). It was not used in Europe as a beauty treatment because one couldn’t get insurance cover for it. So, I could not advertise it as a treatment but it was known through word of mouth. Indians living in Ireland, British Airways and Aer Lingus hostesses who had travelled to India were familiar with threading and would avail of my service quietly. Then Uk accepted it as a treatment and then it was accepted in Ireland too.
An Ancient Technique.
Eyebrow threading has been steadily growing in popularity, and it’s not just because of its ancient roots. There are numerous tangible benefits that set it apart.
It’s wonderful to see such a resurgence of this ancient technique.
Gentleness on the skin. Unlike some other methods that can be abrasive, threading only targets the hair, leaving the surrounding skin undisturbed. This makes it especially beneficial for those with sensitive skin , Acne sufferers, or those who use retinoids. Precision is the ultimate when shaping eyebrows. It allows for a defined brow, capturing even the finest and fairest hair.
No harsh chemicals, suitable for all skin types and lasts for more than 4 weeks
